'Hard Knocks: Los Angeles' Episode 3: Melvin Ingram III raps about coronavirus, George Floyd and fan

In addition to discussing his contract status, the show also gave a glimpse of his music stint and his leadership qualities on the field

Los Angeles Chargers linebacker Melvin Ingram III was one of the stars highlighted in the third episode of 'Hard Knocks: Los Angeles' on August 25. In addition to discussing his contract status, the show also gave a glimpse of his music stint and his leadership qualities on the field. To start with, Ingram's contract was yet to be renewed and while talks were on, he was busy prepping the rookies in practice.

He didn't get his pads on for active scrimmage sessions but went through the motions with dedication. This also earned the respect of Chargers head coach, Anthony Lynn, who vouched for Ingram's commitment and consistency. On June 11, 2017, Ingram signed a four-year, $66 million contract with $42 million guaranteed with the Chargers, and ahead of the season, his contract was restructured where he was guaranteed payment of $14 million in the final year of his contract. This saw the linebacker pad up and return to practice.

While on the topic of Ingram, the episode also showed his side where he was abreast with what was happening around the world. Over the last few months, athletes and celebrities have voiced their thoughts on BLM and Ingram was one of them who used the events of 2020 as part of his own rap song. "Corona, then George Floyd, we in a transition. Black beautiful queen Breonna Taylor, say her name and listen," the lyrics go where he also speaks of America identifying the problem and now needs change.

That storyline also earned him some respect on social media as fans took to Twitter lauding Ingram. "I need to go out and buy a Melvin Ingram, Jersey after this episode of hard knocks. #HardKnocks #Chargers," wrote one of the fans.
