Smallville's Justice League could make 'Crisis on Infinite Earths' the biggest TV crossover ever; if

Tom Welling and Justin Hartley, who played Superman and Green Arrow respectively in 'Smallville', have expressed some interest in joining the multiverse and 'Arrow' star Stephen Amell has also been very vocal about how he would love to have Welling be a part of 'Crisis'

might just be the biggest television event of the year and understandably fans can’t stop speculating about who may or may not make an appearance during the multiverse-wide crossover. One of the names that keeps popping up is that of Tom Welling, who played Clark Kent aka Superman on ‘Smallville’.

Fans have been clamoring to see Welling make an appearance in the Arrowverse for a very long time and the actor hasn’t exactly been against the whole idea. One Twitter user shared a screenshot where he asked the actor if he would appear during ‘Crisis’, to which Welling responded discernably positive.

Sources reportedly told  the Arrowverse heroes would be during the crossover and they will have run-ins with different versions of the Justice League from across the multiverse. According to the report, the crossover may feature up to three different versions of the League, raising hopes that the iconic version of the team from ‘Smallville’ may be making their way to ‘Crisis’.

‘Arrow’ star Stephen Amell stoked rumors further by at the 2019, he would love to have Welling’s Superman fight beside him during ‘Crisis’. “I would want Tom Welling,” Amell said, adding, “I want what the fans want.”

On August 13, he on an article about his comments saying "Wouldn't you?" and fans will certainly agreed. Welling’s Superman was the definitive TV version of the character for a whole generation and ‘Smallville’ has strongly impacted the character’s depictions in later adaptations.

We already have confirmation that Brandon Routh and Tyler Hoechlin will both be playing two different versions of the Man of Steel during the crossover, one from the ‘Kingdom Come’ universe and the other from the world of ‘Supergirl’ respectively. While there has not been any official word on whether or not Welling might join them to make the duo a trio, it wouldn’t be completely out of character for the Arrowverse shows to bring in a blast from the past.

Over the years, all the Arrowverse shows have to the DC TV shows that came before. John Wesley Shipp, who played Barry Allen in the ‘90s TV adaptation of ‘The Flash’, has been a major part of Grant Gustin’s ‘The Flash’ since the show’s very first season.

Shipp first appeared as Barry’s father on the show, before later returning as an alternate universe version of Jay Garrick, the original Golden Age Flash from the comics. He also made an appearance during the ‘Elseworlds’ crossover, which set up ‘Crisis’, as the Earth-90 version of Barry Allen.

Fans have also been asking to see Justin Hartley reprise his role as the Green Arrow from ‘Smallville’, something the actor has mentioned he is open to. Hartley’s Oliver Queen was one of the most popular characters on ‘Smallville’, evolving from playing a relatively small role to becoming a series regular starting in season 8 of the show.

If ‘Crisis on Infinite Earths’ does manage to bring in the Justice League from ‘Smallville’, it would not only be a nice little tribute to the series that prepared the stage for all superhero shows to come, but it would also give fans an extremely fun and memorable moment.

If The CW does manage to navigate all the legal and logistical issues that would need to be dealt with in order to bring the League to screens, they would be able to truly make ‘Crisis on Infinite Earths’ the biggest superhero crossover television has ever seen.

'Crisis on Infinite Earths' will begin with on December 8 and the story will continue with one episode each of on December 9, on December 10  and on January 14, before finally concluding with an episode of 'DC's Legends of Tomorrow' on January 14.
